2024 NFL schedule: Super Bowl rematch, Bills-Chiefs, Rams-Lions highlight best games
View Date:2024-12-23 14:11:45
The 2024 Super Bowl is in the books and now every NFL fanbase can focus on the offseason. Before the 2024 NFL season begins Aug. 1 with the Hall of Fame Game, there's plenty of key events to focus on including the NFL Draft and free agency.
But once the dust settles, the 2024 NFL regular season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 5. That first matchup will feature the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, as it did in the 2023 season. The NFL's already released a matchup list for the 2024 NFL schedule outlining which teams will face off in 2024. Specific dates and times are not yet set, just the opponents.
Was this Chiefs' worst Super Bowl team?Where 2023 squad ranks in franchise history
The 17-game season means that AFC teams will play eight home games and nine road games; NFC teams will play nine matchups at home and eight on the road.
Biggest NFL games in 2024
Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers
This is the second year in a row that Kansas City will play a rematch of their latest Super Bowl. The Eagles triumphed at home against them in 2023. Can the 49ers avenge their Super Bowl loss at home, too?

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills
A budding playoff rivalry continues in the regular season for the fifth year in a row. The Bills have won the last three regular season matchups and this will be the first one of those matchups at home since 2020. That 2020 game was the first time Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes played each other.
Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs
More playoff rematches for the Chiefs sees them hosting a rematch of the 2024 AFC championship game. Lamar Jackson's now tied with Mahomes in MVP awards and the Ravens are one of the Chiefs' biggest threats in 2024.
Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions
Arguably the biggest matchup of the 2024 NFL playoffs' wild card weekend will see a sequel in the 2024 regular season in Detroit once again. Though the stakes will likely be lower, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford's returning to his home for more than a decade once again.
Denver Broncos at New Orleans Saints
Sean Payton heads to New Orleans for the first time as an opposing coach to take on a franchise he coached to arguably its greatest heights. Both teams have plenty of questions to answer this offseason but this will be a must-watch for Payton's return.

Which NFL team has the toughest 2024 schedule?
Using 2023 regular season win-loss records, the Cleveland Browns have the toughest schedule with an opponent win percentage of 0.547. The AFC North rounds out the top three with the Ravens (0.536) and Pittsburgh Steelers (0.533) close behind thanks to all four AFC North teams finishing with a winning record. No other division reached that in 2023.
The NFC South was the only division without a double-digit win team in 2023 and featured the worst team in the league: the 2-15 Carolina Panthers. Because of that, the Atlanta Falcons and Saints are tied for the easiest schedule with an opponent win percentage of 0.453.
